Dreamy Delights: How to Create the Perfect Slumber Party Invitation

Updated September 2026

The excitement of a sleepover starts long before the first sleeping bag is unpacked.

It starts with the invitation! โœจ

Whether you’re sending a beautiful printed invitation or a quick digital invite to the parents, your slumber party invitation does two important jobs:

It gets the kids excited AND gives parents all the information they need.

But what exactly should you include?

From drop-off and pick-up times to what children need to bring, hereโ€™s our guide to creating the perfect sleepover invitation โ€” without forgetting those little details that can save a lot of messages later!

๐Ÿ’Œ 1. Start With Something Fun

Your invitation should immediately tell guests that something exciting is coming.

Try wording such as:

You’re invited to the ultimate sleepover!

Grab your PJs โ€” it’s sleepover time!

Get ready for a night of giggles, games and late-night fun!

Join us for a magical night under the stars!

Match the wording to your child’s age and personality.

A younger child might love something colourful and magical, while a tween may prefer something simple and cool.

๐ŸŽ‚ 2. Make the Birthday Child’s Name Clear

It sounds obvious, but make sure the invitation clearly says who the party is for.

For example:

Come celebrate Sophie’s 10th Birthday!

Personalising the invitation with your child’s name immediately makes it feel special.

๐Ÿ“… 3. Include the Date

Clearly write the day AND date.

For example:

Saturday 17 October 2026

Including both helps avoid confusion โ€” especially when parents have multiple children’s weekend activities to organise.

โฐ 4. Include Drop-Off AND Pick-Up Times

This is one of the most important pieces of information on a sleepover invitation.

Don’t simply write:

5pm onwards

Give parents a clear start and finish time.

For example:

Drop-off: Saturday at 5:00pm
Pick-up: Sunday at 9:30am

Parents will thank you for it!

๐Ÿ“ 5. Include the Address

Add the full address where the party is being held.

If there’s anything parents need to know about parking, gates or where to enter, include that too.

For a Bell Tent party, you could make it part of the fun:

Join us for a backyard sleepover under the stars! โ›บโœจ

๐ŸŽ‰ 6. Tell Them What Kind of Party It Is

Give guests a little preview of what’s planned.

It might be:

๐ŸŽฌ Movie night
โ›บ Bell Tent sleepover
๐ŸŽฎ Gaming party
๐Ÿ’… Pamper night
๐ŸŽค Karaoke
โšฝ Sports party
โœจ Indoor teepee sleepover
๐Ÿชฉ Glow party

You don’t need to provide an hour-by-hour itinerary.

A few hints are enough to build excitement.

๐ŸŽ’ 7. Tell Guests What to Bring

This is where a simple checklist works beautifully.

Depending on your setup, guests might need:

โ˜ Pyjamas
โ˜ Pillow
โ˜ Toothbrush and toiletries
โ˜ Change of clothes
โ˜ Swimmers and towel
โ˜ Favourite comfort item
โ˜ Any required medication

If Slumber Wonderland is providing the beds and bedding, make that clear so parents don’t arrive carrying sleeping bags unnecessarily.

๐Ÿ• 8. Mention Food

You don’t need to list the entire menu, but it’s helpful to let parents know that dinner, snacks and breakfast will be provided.

For example:

Pizza, party snacks and breakfast will be provided.

If you’re going out for dinner or having a special food activity, mention that too.

๐Ÿฅœ 9. Ask About Allergies & Dietary Requirements

This is one detail that’s definitely worth including.

Add something as simple as:

Please let us know when you RSVP if your child has any food allergies or dietary requirements.

It’s much easier to organise suitable food before the party than discover an allergy when everyone is sitting down for dinner.

๐Ÿ“ฑ 10. Include RSVP Details

Make it really obvious who parents need to contact and when.

For example:

RSVP to Julie on 04XX XXX XXX by 10 October.

An RSVP deadline gives you enough time to confirm food, sleeping arrangements and party numbers.

โค๏ธ 11. Ask Parents to Share Anything You Need to Know

Sleepovers can be a big deal for some children.

For one guest, it might be their tenth sleepover.

For another, it could be their very first night away from home.

Consider adding:

Please let us know if there’s anything we should know to help your child feel comfortable during their stay.

This gives parents an opportunity to privately mention anything relevant without putting the child on the spot.

๐Ÿ  12. Make It Okay Not to Sleep Over

This is one of my favourite things to include on a sleepover invitation.

Some children desperately want to attend the party but aren’t quite ready to stay overnight.

And that’s okay.

Consider giving families the option of joining in with the evening and being collected before bedtime.

You could write:

Not quite ready for a sleepover? That’s absolutely fine! You’re welcome to join us for the party and be picked up at ___pm.

It means a child doesn’t have to miss their friend’s birthday simply because they’re not comfortable staying overnight.

๐Ÿ’Š 13. Keep Medication Arrangements Between Adults

If a guest needs medication while they’re staying, ask their parent or carer to discuss it directly with you at drop-off.

Medication should remain appropriately labelled and managed by the responsible adults rather than being shared or handled casually by children.

You don’t need medical details printed on the invitation โ€” simply provide your contact details so parents can speak with you privately if needed.

๐Ÿถ 14. Mention Anything Parents Might Need to Know

Think about your home and planned activities.

Is there a dog?

Will the kids be swimming?

Are they sleeping outside in a Bell Tent?

Will you be taking them somewhere during the party?

If there’s something a parent would reasonably want to know before saying yes, include it in the invitation or discuss it when they RSVP.

๐ŸŽจ 15. Match the Invitation to the Party Theme

This is the fun part!

Let the invitation give guests their first glimpse of the party.

A Bell Tent party could feature stars and fairy lights.

A gaming sleepover could use neon colours.

A pretty pink sleepover could feature soft pastels.

A soccer sleepover could use the birthday child’s favourite team colours.

It creates excitement before the party has even begun.

โœจ A Simple Sleepover Invitation Template

Not sure how to put everything together?

Here’s an easy template you can personalise:

YOU’RE INVITED TO [NAME]’S [AGE]TH BIRTHDAY SLEEPOVER! ๐ŸŽ‰

Get your PJs ready for a night of fun, food, games and plenty of laughs!

๐Ÿ“… When: Saturday [DATE]

โฐ Drop-off: [TIME]

๐ŸŒž Pick-up: Sunday [TIME]

๐Ÿ“ Where: [ADDRESS]

We’ll be enjoying [MOVIES / GAMES / SWIMMING / KARAOKE / ETC.] before settling in for our sleepover.

๐ŸŽ’ Please bring:

โ€ข Pillow
โ€ข Pyjamas
โ€ข Toothbrush & toiletries
โ€ข Change of clothes
โ€ข [ANYTHING ELSE REQUIRED]

๐Ÿ• Dinner, snacks and breakfast will be provided.

Please let us know about any food allergies or dietary requirements when you RSVP.

Not quite ready to stay overnight? No problem! Your child is still very welcome to join the party and can be collected at [TIME].

๐Ÿ’Œ RSVP to [NAME] on [PHONE NUMBER] by [DATE].

We can’t wait to celebrate with you! โœจ

๐Ÿ’™ One Final Tip: Keep It Simple

A sleepover invitation doesn’t need to contain paragraphs of information.

Parents are busy.

The most useful invitation is one they can look at quickly and immediately see:

Who.
When.
Where.
Drop-off.
Pick-up.
What to bring.
How to RSVP.

Then add just enough personality to make the kids excited.

That’s the perfect balance.

โœจ The Invitation Is Just the Beginning

Once the invitations have been sent, the countdown really begins.

At Slumber Wonderland, we love that moment when children walk into their sleepover and see everything waiting for them.

From individual indoor teepees and open-style cabanas to backyard Bell Tent adventures, we create magical sleepover experiences for families throughout Wollongong, the Illawarra and surrounding areas.

Because the invitation might start the excitement…

but the memories made together are the part they’ll remember.
